You sound stupid
Story
A psychic tries to uncover the truth behind her sister’s murder at a crime scene. The strangeness as a whole was made up of Mc Carthy’s “cherry picked from horror tropes” elements. The wooden man was inspired by Jewish folklore about the golem, a large clay figure that can be brought to life through rituals to do the bidding of its creator. Dani Timmins: Do I look stupid? Dani Timmins: [who is blind] You have no idea what you look like.
Yana: Excuse me?
Dani Timmins: Do I look stupid? Yana: No. Dani Timmins: My sister and I were the same, so that means she didn’t look stupid. Starred in Half in the Bag: The 10 Best Horror Movies (2024) Part 2 (2024). There’s a River by Harry Bird, Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies courtesy of Hot Drop Records.
I recently watched the Irish film 🇮🇪 Oddity (2024) in cinemas
The story follows a doctor who loses his wife during a strange home invasion. Five years later, the doctor has a new girlfriend who stays in the same house. The strange happenings around the house are starting to get weird. When she finally decides to move out, she discovers that it won’t be as easy as she hoped… The film was written and directed by Damian Mc Carthy (Caveat) and stars Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody), Carolyn Bracken (The Quiet Girl ), Caroline Menton, Tadhg Murphy (Boy Eats Girl) and Steve Wall (Dune: Part Two).
The props are excellent and the corpses and blood splatter are solid
It’s a unique addition to the horror genre, with elements reminiscent of Pumpkinhead and The Conjuring. They set the mood perfectly and I loved the old cobbled house, the camera angles and the use of lighting. Unfortunately, the movie loses momentum with the killer scenes, which weren’t great. The acting is uneven, some scenes are overacted, but overall the performances are good. I really enjoyed the full circle elements in the ending, although I wish they had taken everything a step further.
I would rate this a 7/10
In conclusion, Oddity is a unique addition to the horror genre and a must-see for fans.
